With a job as scientific research assistant or researcher you get the chance to develop your skills and knowledge in different technical fields which go beyond the topics taught in the courses of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences. This, naturally, is held under the provision that you bring along the necessary qualifications.  Because it means, as in most cases: work , work, work. But on the other side of that stands the adaptation of abstract and complex thinking patterns.

The fundamental idea is the passing down of knowledge from our experienced team members, who know exactly which gaps need to be closed on the way to the ultimate goal that is the doctorate (or at least for reading scientific literature). This enables the following students to focus on the key questions that need answering to solve the tasks at hand, instead of wasting time on trivial things like the meaning of certain symbols and formulas.

The procedure consists of multiple stages. First – to get started – familiar topics such as the Fourier and Laplace transformation will be worked up in greater depth in order to then internalise selected topics in mathematics. Building from this base your path leads through the subjects of systems theory and system identification, as well as the now current methodological research and development tools.
